An example of fine art by Nancy Smitherman

Photo of Nancy Smitherman

Capturing subject matter, real and imagined, through my use of color, movement, and light is what I do well. My paintings reflect a sense of “new impressionism”, which vibrate with excitement, vitality, and dimension. My creative compositions come alive as my representation of the real world is combined with the vigor of unexpected color. While still in school, I was inspired by the work of impressionists Claude Monet, and Vincent Van Gogh. Through the years, I have pursued my own unique style of painting which I call “abstract expressionism”. As an accomplished artist, I am passionate about creating.
I received my BS degree in Art Education from Louisiana State University and continued my education at Southern Methodist University, studying printmaking, drawing, and pottery. Later I studied water color and pottery at the University of Colorado in Boulder.I have exhibited my artwork throughout the Gulf South region, continually showing my work at the Louisiana State Archives Gallery, in juried shows of The Associated Women in the Arts, and with the Guild of Louisiana’s Annual Exhibits. one of my paintings Resplendent Moment, was recently accepted to the prestigious River Road show, a national juried show with more than 300 applicants and only 75 chosen. My artwork has been selected into this national show several times, including the last two years.
