An example of fine art by Nancy Overton

Photo of Nancy Overton

I was born and grew up in Dayton, Ohio.  I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Ohio University and my Masters from Lesley College.  I have additional post -graduate work at University of Northern Colorado and Red Rocks Community College.  I've had very beneficial workshops with Kathleen Cook, Bob Rohm, Margaret Dyer and Dinah Worman.
I've enjoyed making marks on paper and just about everything else for as long as I can remember.  My formal career began with Saturday morning classes at the Dayton Art Institute.  This began my journey to becoming a professional artist and a 32 year veteran art teacher, working in the public education system.  For awhile my personal art work was pushed aside while my focus was on teaching art and being a wife and mother.  Now retired, I have time to stop "dabbling" and to concentrate on "my" art.
My subjects are varied from detailed portraits, plein air (working on-site outdoors) landscapes and close-ups of objects that interest me throught their shape, pattern, color and texture.
I think of my art as a journey down and interesting path, stopping along the way to document a point or place in time; the details of nature, architecture and human form.  I hope you will enjoy traveling with me through my work and have as much fun as I did doing it.
