Biography
Art has always been an important part of my life but I didn't have any formal training until I took my first watercolor class in 1990. I was immediately hooked but didn't have much time to paint as I was raising my family. When my youngest went to college in 2007, I began to paint seriously. I enjoy working in every medium but watercolor will always be my favorite. I don't think any other medium has the beauty, texture and transparency that can be achieved in watercolor. I love to experiment with different techniques and styles, but my favorite way to work is in a controlled way layering multiple glazes to build depth.
I started a blog in 2008 as a way to be sure to carve out time every day to paint. My self-imposed deadline is to post a painting each week by Monday before 7:00 PM. There have been many weeks that I've barely made it but I'm proud of the fact that since 2008, I haven't missed a deadline once. Some of the paintings are small and done quickly and some are much more involved paintings that have taken weeks to complete. They are also done in a variety of mediums which keeps me motivated to experiment and keep things fresh.
