Artist Monika Weedon

An example of fine art by Monika Weedon

Photo of Monika Weedon

My name is Monika Weedon. I have been painting from my school days on. My parents advised me against making Art my career, 'since you can't make a living out of Art'. Instead I worked in Medical Research, as a Personnel Officer, a Training Manager and as Sheltered Housing Officer – a Council employee. All this time I used any spare time to paint. I have built up a substantial portfolio covering many media and subjects.
Each painting should tell a story, or create an atmosphere that transports the viewer to the subject of the painting. The Icefalls suggest majesty, power, cold and the dramatic lighting common to Iceland in winter. The rivers that flow through the NW Australian desert are wonderful for swimming. The paintings make one feel the heat of the terrain and the cool of the water. I enjoyed painting theamazing rock formations and cave dwellings in Turkey, the equally amazing formations of the Australian Bungle Bungle, the unique colours of the striations of the circular rocks, especially at sunset.
Equally beautiful is the British scenery , my lokal beautyspot ' Farthing Downs,'' and the Surrey countryside with it's variety of vegetation, hills and valleys, the Wye Valley, the Welsh hills and coast. I have tried to make the viewer feel what it is really like to be in the place represented in the painting.
I love people, dogs, insects, flowers – nature, and try and show their humour and attraction.  I hope you will like what I do.
