Michelle Letts Watson is a landscape artist whose passion for life and art are vividly seen in her colorful oil paintings.  Michelle is originally from Myrtle Beach, S.C.  She graduated from Columbia College, Columbia S.C. where she began her study of art.  Her family was very passionate about  art and owned a business with an emphasis on fine art and fine jewelry designs helping to nurture her desire to become a painter. Michelle returned to her childhood desire to paint after a career change in 1999.  After working with a number of artists, she began to work intensively for two years studying classical painting techniques with Henry Barnes who studied at the Chatov Studio  (Russian Impressionism) in Atlanta Ga.
Michelle has been most influenced by the Hudson River School painters whose paintings were created to praise the power and overwhelming beauty of nature. Having grown up in the coastal south, there is a romantic attachment to the inspiring and compelling landscape she paints. One of her most favorite places of beauty and inspiration is Brookgreen Gardens, Murrells Inlet, S.C., the most beautiful sculpture garden in America.  The garden was a wonderful family outing , studying its collection of nineteenth and twentieth century works. In addition living in beautiful Florida with her view of the ocean,  there is inspiration daily observing and taking color notes and sketches of the dramatic and extraordinary skies and landscape.
Artist Statement: I cherish the magnificent source of nature's inspiration and seek to paint the scene to reflect a sense of incredible beauty. The name of my work is called, " The Glory of Nature."  Nature has been for me , all of my life a source of beauty, stillness, adventure, and delight for my soul. Nature is the visible manifestation of God the creator.
The emotional elements of the scene is of utmost importance to my vision for the painting. I have the scene in my heart and mind before I paint [...]
