The Artist Says:

I love painting, it is a refuge for me a meditation. I believe that many of the painting I create carry those qualities and can bring a sense of serenity to the viewer and their environment.


Michelle Golias was born and spent her early years in the American Midwest. For the last thirty years she has lived in New York City where she has established herself as an artist after study at the Art Students League and the School of Visual Arts. 
Proficient and trained in figure painting and portraiture, in recent years Golias has turned her talents to include landscapes having been exposed to the countryside in and around Rockport, Massachusetts, over the course of several summers.  The interplay of city life with her work in the landscape of New England has informed her artistic vision, "Painting from life is an amazing experience. It has opened new ways of observing nature and a more profound understanding of its beauty." Although she continues to do much of her work in the studio, plein air painting remains a guiding element in her inspiration. "The experience of the immediate environment has assisted not only my brushwork, but my ability to translate the experience of what I see onto the canvas."Golias has stated that a primary goal as an artist is to relate, through the medium of a painting, a heightened sense of consciousness to the viewer. "Whether it is in color, mood or atmosphere, through a painting the artist can have a dialogue. The conversation is first with the painting itself, but the dialogue is then extended when it connects with the viewer. The attention of the viewer becomes part of the process. A painting can change not only the energy of an environment, it can also change the viewer. Art can be more than oil on canvas; it can be a tranquil beauty that enhances our lives"
