Artist Michael Severin

An example of fine art by Michael Severin

I live in Sonora , California, a small gold rush town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.   I did not pursue art as a career path.   My career spanned 36 years with the United States Postal Service.  I married, raised children, and was busy with my career.  I would take oil painting classes when I could and became a "Sunday" painter.  After retiring from the postal service in 2002, I was free to pursue my second career as a landscape artist.
I do not have a formal art education.  I closely study the works of  many artists past and present, and consider all artists  my mentor.    After I retired, I participated in various artists workshops, plein air painted almost every day, and read every art book I could get my hands on.  I wanted  to learn as much as I could and as quickly as I could.    I love my second career as an artist. I am continuing to learn, always striving to perfect my craft to the highest level I can.  I consider myself a "contemporary Semi-Impressionist" painter.
I am a member of the Mother Lode Art Association and the Alliance art Association here in Sonora, California.  I am represented by  the Petroglyphe Gallery in Mokelumne Hill, Ca.
My inspiration comes from the landscape around me in which I attempt to convey upon the canvas the beauty of God"s creation and the importance of protecting it through environmental awareness.
