Michael has worked as an Art Director and Illustrator in marketing and advertising for much of his professional career. Over those years Michael accepted numerous commissions to paint portraits for both private collectors as well as corporate leaders. Currently Michael is focused almost exclusively on figurative painting and portraiture. In addition he is teaching classes on the Art of Still Life and Portrait Painting. Michael studied art at The American Academy of Art in Chicago, Illinois under the respected tutelage of instructors Irving Shapiro and William Parks--both teachers have single- handedly influenced several generations of aspiring artists.

Some thoughts on my art and my influences: To me art is the culminating expression of many different environmental factors; those people, places and things that influence us helps to encapsulate what our art expression means for each of us. I have always been fascinated with the human form and capturing its unique characteristics and beauty. My art appreciation really took root in studying Renaissance Masters like Michelangello, Velåzquez, Titian and the amazing portraits and religious paintings produced during that revolutionary period in art history. As a portrait artist I’ve challenged myself to capture both a persons likeness and their persona--the essence of an individuals unique human spirit. Though a realist by definition, my work is gradually evolving and becoming more expressive through other influences like the 19th and 20th century artists Sargent, Degas and Monet.
