The Ten
“The Ten” have a heavy influence on Michael Fratrich's work, so much so, that they are the "Ten" that gave name to Ten One Gallery!
The Ten American Painters (also known as The Ten) were Art’s trailblazers from the turn of the 20th century. Dissatisfied with the conservatism of the American art establishment, the artists' came together in 1898 to exhibit their work as a unified group.  John Henry Twachtman, J. Alden Weir, and Childe Hassam recruited seven others from Boston, New York City, and elsewhere on the East Coast, with the intention of creating their own exhibition society that valued originality, imagination, and exhibition quality. The Ten achieved popular and critical success.
The members of The Ten were Frank W. Benson, Joseph Rodefer DeCamp, Thomas Wilmer Dewing, Childe Hassam, Willard Leroy Metcalf, Robert Reid, Edward Simmons, Edmund C. Tarbell, John Henry Twachtman, and J. Alden Weir. All were former members of the Society of American Artists. After J. H. Twachtman died in 1902, William Merritt Chase joined The Ten in his place.  At the turn of the century, and to this day, these artists are America's Masters.
Michael Fratrich is accomplished in the styles of these turn of the century American Masters, he is accomplished in the styles of Masters of the Modern Day, and he continues to Master New Work, based in Rich American Historical Fine Art !
