Artist MaryJane Jones

An example of fine art by MaryJane Jones

Photo of MaryJane Jones

Born and raised in New Orleans, MaryJane's love of painting was fostered at an early age by her mother, an elementary school art teacher. MaryJane began taking oil painting lessons at the age of six. The culturally diverse heritage of New Orleans, as well as the city's dependence on the Mississippi River Delta ecosystem left an indelible impression on the developing artist.MaryJane studied Biology at Loyola University, New Orleans, graduating magnum cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree, After beginning a career in immunology research, MaryJane moved overseas and quickly returned to the brush and began a journey that led to her distinctive style. MaryJane combines modern impressionistic style with idealistic studies. Attention to detail gives viewers a sense of personal interaction with the subjects, while her loose brush stokes give a sense of movement and depth. MaryJane uses her background in biology to capture the beauty of the natural world in unique ways. Her work is permeated with hope and a sense that the wonders of our world need to be explored and preserved.
After returning to Southeastern United States in 2014, MaryJane began sharing her works in local businesses, galleries and exhibitions. MaryJane is now back in New Orleans, but you can also find her artwork at Cottle and Gunn in historic downtown St. Marys, Georgia. Available artwork is also available in her online Etsy shop and daily paintings are posted on Instagram.
