I feel I've been an artist all my life, never deviating from the path I chose in 6th grade when an art teacher felt I had a special talent and encouraged me. Many other artists/teachers have been a positive influence throughout the years and as a working artist I hope I too can encourage others to follow their talents and dreams.
New transplant in Indianapolis, IN, former Leelanau Peninsula, Michigan Artist, Mary Fuscaldo graduated from Drake University with a BFA in Art Education. She did post graduate studies at Delta College and has studied with nationally known artists at workshops in Sedona AZ, Scotland, Provence France, Italy and New Zealand where she taught a pastel workshop for the Pastel Artists of New Zealand (PANZ) in Invercargill and was a Keynote speaker at their annual convention in Christchurch.
Mary served as Board Chair of both Arts Midland (MI) Galleries and School and The Midland Center for the Arts and Sciences. She served as president of the 200 member Great Lakes Pastel Society for 3 terms, a total of 6 years, then served as Exhibitions Chair for 2 years.
Mary taught pastel workshops at the Old Art Building in Leland, Traverse City, MI Crooked Tree Art Center and occasionally at the Midland, MI Center for the Arts and Sciences where she previously served on the Studio School faculty.
She was instrumental in bringing the still active Picture Person Program to Midland Public and Parochial Schools.
Mary has won many awards for her paintings in both state and national jury exhibitions. Her paintings have been on the covers of American Spoon Foods catalogs, ForeWord Magazine, Manitou Magazine published by the Sleeping Bear National Park Visitors Bureau, in the book “Art of the Sleeping Bear Dunes” and in Plein Air Magazine, Southwest Art Magazine and Sedona [...]
