"Looking over my life; I have always been a painter.  Now I am 88 years old and I still have the passion to paint; it's right there."
 Mary Ellen studied art at Northern Illinois University, where she graduated with a  bachelors degree in art education in 1956, She took graduate courses at NIU, Studied at Rockford College, Illinois, California College of Arts and Crafts, the David Hardy Studio, (class in oil painting) in Alameda, California, plus many workshops and classes throughout her life. She has done both hand built and wheel thrown pottery.   
After she came to California in 1983, she painted exclusively with watercolors for fifteen years.  Presently, she is painting in oil and watercolor and all sorts of drawing media; inspired by California scenery; travels to Big Sur, East Sierras, Yosemite, her home in Carmel Valley, the northern coast of California, England, Wales, Italy and New Zealand.
She has participated in many art competitions and has won ribbons, awards and recognition.  She lived near Trinidad, California for many years and participated in shows, taught private lessons in watercolors, pastel, oil, and drawing.
She has been featured in galleries in Eureka, Trinidad, Humboldt State University, Ferndale, Monterey and Carmel. "My present gallery is Faso on line".
Mary Ellen presently teaches an art class called Technique and Transcendence with Monterey Peninsula College. she has a nice following of students and collectors over the last 20+ years.  She has been in numerous shows and galleries over many years.  
Her most recent works are oil paintings done in an impressionistic style, using pallet knife and heavy brush work on  gessoed board and canvas.  She has recently painted a large oil on canvas, approximately [...]
