Biography
My artistic training began in high school where I did my first paintings in acrylics and won a national scholastic award for a piece of jewelry I designed. Although I studied art at Colorado State University, I graduated with a degree in English and pursued a career in teaching. I have been actively painting for the last seven years, taking classes at the Art Students League of Denver, as well as private classes and workshops. My painting teacher/mentors have been Molly Davis, Ron Hicks, Kevin Weckbach, and Kim English. Each of their unique approaches to painting have challenged me to grow and to develop my own style.
Like musicians and writers, painters have the opportunity to convey unique human experiences regardless of subject matter. Having come to grips with the technical aspects of painting, my task then becomes how best to express the "drama" of the moment...the light play, the gesture, the mood. I think that my most successful paintings contain that little drama of the everyday. The sense of satisfaction I get when a stranger connects with one of my paintings is certainly equal to the satisfaction I get from painting itself.
I am an associate member of Oil Painters of America, and my paintings are held in nearly a hundred private collections.
