Artist Martha Willi

An example of fine art by Martha Willi

Photo of Martha Willi

I received my Bachelors and Masters in Art Education from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.  During my education I focused my attention on painting and ceramics.  Painting in oil has always been my choice as I am drawn to the richness and vibrancy of the pigment. I enjoy working with the variety of ways oil paint can be applied and manipulated on the surface.  I also work in acrylic and pastel.
Teaching art at the high schol level for many years allowed me to experiment and work with diverse art media.  This diversity broadened my knowledge of techniques, materials, subject possibilities, and even limitations. My subject choice continues to be diverse although I am drawn to images of horses and other animals, still life, and landscapes. Weather permitting I also enjoy the challenge and immediacy of plein air painting.
I paint at home in my studio, but continue to study and gain inspiration from other notable artists.  I have had the opportunity to attend workshops with painters Connie Erickson, Susan Lyon, Dawn Whitelaw, and Anne Blair-Brown, as well as attend the Art Educator's Forum Exhibit and Competition at the Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, Georgia.
I hope that you are able to recall a memory, a time or place, or have a similar connection or appreciation for the images that I have enjoyed painting.
