Martha is from Alabaster, Alabama and has a diverse background in the arts. She majored in art at Auburn University and at University of Alabama in Birmingham where she earned a BA degree in Fine Art. She worked as a commercial artist and as a medical illustrator, and had a successful mural business for 15 years. Her work can be seen in many homes and businesses in the greater Birmingham area and throughout the Southeast, as well as in Guatemala. She has painted in watercolor for over 40 years and has won many awards for her paintings. In recent years she has won first place in the Aldridge Gardens Plein Air Paint-Out, first place in the watercolor division in the Shelby County Arts Council Juried Art Exhibition, second place in the Gulf Coast Arts Alliance Plein Air Quick Draw and first place in the Pike Road Plein Air Quick Draw. She has received numerous commissions for watercolor portraits of people as well as animals, homes and businesses. Martha has illustrated “Treasures in an Alabama Attic”, a children’s book by Sheror Caton Moore and the covers for  “Fog on My Path” and “The Fog Has Lifted” by Tony Serio. Her artwork has also been featured in Shelby Living Magazine. She is a member of Alabama Plein Air Artists and Mt. Brook Art Association where she served as V.P. of Programs. She has continued to develop her skills in watercolor through workshops with Wayne Spradley, Don Rankin and Pat Hall. More recently she enjoys painting in oils, and has taken workshops with Dawn Whitelaw, John Lasater, Jason Sacran, Caleb O’Conner, Craig Reynolds, and Barbara Binford Davis.  She is currently studying with Terry Strickland and Kay Lewis.
