Mark Lemon is a product of the West. He was born in Sun Valley. His parents later moved to Littleton, Colorado to raise their family. There was a heavy emphasis on skiing when rope tows and poma lifts were giving way to modern two man chairlifts at Winter Park and A-Basin. In other seasons they often camped or stayed at a friend’s cabin in the Grand Valley exploring back roads and ranches in the 53 Ford Country Sedan, a bunch of kids in the back. Lemon’s father taught his son how to work as a carpenter. Mark’s relationship with family and good friends created a strong basis for his desire to connect through art and community.
Lemon’s love of skiing, biking, and camping continued to grow throughout his youth.  When he left high school, he spent time in the mid-seventies working on North Sea offshore oilrigs. He lived in a small fishing town called Johnshaven, riding a Norton motorcycle between castles in Scotland. He spent time in Oslo Norway, and headed south to explore the art and countryside of Europe. In the summer of 1978, he moved to the Vail Valley, where he continues to live with his wife, Alease.  His sons are grown and he’s viewing the outdoors from a bicycle now.
Mark had an early eye for the details of his outdoor world, and he initiated his first oil painting when he was eleven years old.  The art resonated in him, but it was not until 1990, amidst major personal changes and soul searching, that he decided to pursue fine art as a career. He went back to school, and he reached out to a stable of mentors who gave him their unique perspectives. The number of workshops taken by Lemon is to long to list.
