Biography


Marjorie paints traditional subject matter with a fresh eye. Painting from life, she uses the richness of oil paint to convey the mood and sense of place. Her style is influenced by Impressionism and Classical Realism. She has shared her enthusiasm for creating art with her students at The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Studio School where she taught for 30 years and she continues to teach studio art for the VMFA Statewide program.
 
Marjorie graduated with honors from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, she also studied at Art Students League of New York and Virginia Commonwealth University. Over the years she has received awards for figurative and landscape painting as well as two fellowships to the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Her most recent awards include First Place at Gloucester Arts Festival, Community Artist 2.5 Plein Air Competition 2019 in Gloucester, Virginia and Third Place in Plein Air Westhampton 2019 in Richmond, Virginia. 
 
Her work is included in numerous private and corporate collections in Richmond, Virginia including The Governor's Mansion, Media General, The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, C.S.X. Corporation, E.R. Carpenter Corp., The Medical College of Virginia, Henrico Doctor’s Hospital and Mutual Assurance.
 
Marjorie is an active member in the Portrait Society of America, Oil Painters of America, Virginia Plein Air Painters Association, The Maryland Society of Portrait Painters and the Mid Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association.
