Artist Marianne Woosley

An example of fine art by Marianne Woosley

After putting away my paints to raise a family and limiting creativity to my kids and fiber arts, I picked up my brushes again in 2012.  Starting with watercolors and then moving onto Soft Pastels in 2014.
French philosopher Paul Desjardins in 1889 said of this messy medium:
"Pastel is the lightest, most fugitive of techniques - like the pollen of a lily, or the dust from a butterfly's wing that an artist scatters and fixes on paper"
Drawing with graphite, charcoal, colored pencils and pen & ink are still on my list of joys.
With the great California weather and subject diversity, I find I do 90% of my painting outdoors, Plein Air.
Born in Canada to Swiss parents, I feel at home in the mountains. Yet I live by the sea. Both give me joy and inspiration to paint.
Although landscapes are my 'thing' I do like to mix it up with flowers occasionally.
