Biography
Mardie Dalzell Driftmier
My inspiration comes from the world around me... walks at sunrise... hikes in the hinterlands... drives across country... days in the garden ... faces seen… even weeds found by the roadside.
In my mind there is great beauty and hope buried not so deep beneath the surface of our natural world. This is the thought that I want to share with my viewers. Of course I know there’s also ugliness, dread and the unspeakable in this world but I hope we can find respite in the awe of the raw simple beauty embedded in our lives, our days.
I work on paper with a variety of mediums using my hands, pencils, pens, brushes, rags. My process is to add, remove, wipe, smudge, erase, sometimes dampen then add again – working layer upon layer. Art has been my best friend over all these years - at times quite frustrating but in the end so rewarding.
