The Artist Says:

An artist for life.  From childhood through all the stages of life, I was drawing, painting, creating art, and then being able to sell paintings and moving on to art as a career.  This continued on to adult life and education, gaining a BA from Westminster College, in Salt Lake City, Utah.  My specialty was portraits and figure studies. At a later time, I received a MFA from the University of Utah, also in Salt Lake City.
Restlessness set in after 50, and the studio life was not for me.  Outdoor sports with the family, became my favorite activity, and consumed the most time. Then a new art passion set in.  Pleine  Aire painting took hold.  Painting from real life, outdoors  let me combine my favorite things...nature and art.
As a plein air landscape artist, my  joy is in the outdoors. For the most part, I have roamed Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Arizona, for my entire life.Rivers, lakes, mountains, red rock country and alpine forests speak of the wilderness we  love, and need. Nature revives and calms us, speaking it's own secret language to our hearts. My passion is also expressed as a conservationist for this wilderness.  This quote by John Muir, in the Redwoods, says it best. "The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness".

My whole life I have been a wanderer. As a kid, adults were always complaining that I had "wandered off", and had to go find me, and drag me back.  Investigating a fishing hole, or the pasture on the neighbors' farm,  hidden flowers or livestock.  Painting, drawing, creating was second nature and I pursued an art education and career.  Education included a BA from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah and an MFA from University of Utah, also in Salt Lake City. Pursuing various employment, when my art sales were slow. My paths have led throughout Utah,Idaho, Wyoming and Arizona.
At 50, I got restless. Adventures in nature, with family, became a priority.  Skiing, scuba diving, hiking, camping, we were always on the move. Then I discovered pleine aire, or plain air painting from real life,  outdoors. Combining my favorite passions...nature and creating art.
The Saguaro Cactus takes 50 years, before it starts to bloom. So maybe that's my path too. Being outside is like breath to me. Nature revives and restores us, and speaks a fierce, secret language to our souls.  So I will always pack up and wander, to where ever the next painting will be.
