Photo of Maggie Kotuk

Maggie Kotuk was born and raised in New York City's Greenwich Village in 1945. She completed a double Master's degree in history and education at New York University in 1971.
Her life has been multi-dimensional, multi-faceted; a life of painting, raising two children, teaching (High School European and American History) and horse farm ownership and management. Her farm in historic Micanopy, Florida specializes in the breeding of registered star Friesian horses from Holland. As an artist, Maggie is self-taught. She considers her work to be representative, primitive at times; her sculpture is in the folk art genre.  Her focus is on the narrative whether it is painting, printmaking, sculpture, painted plates or naturally the stories themselves as in The Tails.Maggie has been working on the 'journey' as she describes her life as an artist, for close to fifty years. She has been given numerous commissions and one woman shows throughout her career. Her work is in both private and public collections as well as museum collections in New York. The children's books, The Tails, is a trilogy based more or less on the life on Maggie's farm. There are over 148 original paintings . The first two books were written by her daughter, Amanda Kraus, founder and CEO of the non-profit Row New York serving the underserved children of New York City.In 2009 Maggie moved from East Hampton, NY to Micanopy Fl. Her various farm animals are often the subjects for her sculptures, paintings and prints.Maggie is represented byIcehouse Studios (Est. 1986)  in McIntosh FloridaDirector George Ferreira1-352-591-5930Hwy 441 and Ave C (9th St)McIntosh, Fl 32664For Studio Tour Information or if you would like to contact Maggie directly her contact information is:Maggie Kotuk12504 NW 320 HighwayMicanopy, Fl 326671-352-466-0334
