An example of fine art by M. Freeman

For me, painting has always been about the discovery and experience of different materials and how they interact, and how I can create textures and atmospheres that evoke my sense of fascination with the effects of time and decay on the natural and man made world. Initially I focused on abstract compositions shaped intuitively without planning, though I envisioned myself telling more representational stories with my work eventually. New processes and materials I've discovered over the last couple of years are now opening up that more representational direction. I work with acrylic paints and mediums, paper, fabric, wood, glue, ink, and printed materials. I also make drawings, using primarily graphite and wax pastels on paper.
I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and now live in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
