Artist's Statement
My art helps everything else maintain balance. I'm happiest with an art tool in my hand. Blending colors, paint strokes, watching images come alive, the brush sounds moving across canvas, bring me joy.
Music is a frequent theme for me. The sway and movement created by musical instruments, or notes and symbols bring different stories to each image.
My sketch pad travels with me and where my ideas develop. Painting happens in the studio, where I work listening to jazz or classical music. Listening, watching or painting music, is natural for me and I think everyone should have music in their lives and on their walls!
Lynn York is currently in southern California, painting music themed images and portraits. She has an ACA Photoshop Certificate, and also tutors in Photoshop and computer skills.
Her art career started in photography. Lynn studied photography with Dr. Will Counts at Indiana University and Arthur Tausig in California. In the 80’s, as a freelance photographer, she had eclectic opportunities, including theater groups, models’ portfolios and band photographer for folks like guitarists Doc Pittillo and Alan Joseph.
Lynn began painting murals in the mid 90’s for residential properties and promotional pieces for a local movie theater. At College of the Desert, she designed mural art for a student computer lab. Her public murals are displayed in Rising Sun and Aurora, Indiana, completed during her community work in each city. She participated in the Aurora Mural, Main St. projects; Windows of Aurora, for 3 separate year’s grants and finishing 5 murals. The Aurora Local History Library has 4 of her paintings of the historic architecture of Aurora, Indiana, in their permanent collection.
