Biography


Lucas was born in 1948, he developed his artistic talents as a child and self-taught himself oil and pastels painting while studying high-school in Hong Kong. After graduating in Graphics Design, Lucas started his own Art Studio and established a successful global Fine Art exporting business in Hong Kong for 10 years. He became a professional artist exhibiting his artwork locally and abroad. In his thirties, Lucas migrated to the US and started his own Art Gallery in San Jose and his artwork continues to flourish in oil and watercolor painting.   
 
In the early nineties, Lucas met Professor Hau Pei-Jen and the Professor’s style of "splash color" triggered Lucas's passion for Oriental brush painting and inspired him to develop an unique style of his own. Since then, Lucas began holding art shows throughout the Bay Area including Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Mountain View, Saratoga, San Jose, Pleasanton and Cupertino. He held the position as Artistic Director in some of these art shows. In 1996 and 1997, Lucas was appointed as Editor for the US Chinese Artists in the Chinese National Artist Directory. In 1996, Professor Hau personally autographed a commemorative painting and gifted it to Lucas, this is a piece with profound significance.
 

 
In 2007, Lucas held art shows throughout China including Dongguan, Shenzhen and Guangzhou.  In 2008, he participated in the Olympic Games Art Exhibition in Beijing.
 
Inspired by the fascinating Cypress found in the beautiful Carmel area in California, Lucas recently started a new series in capturing these ever-changing and amazing trees. In 2014 and 2015, Lucas was selected to participate in the Carmel Arts Festival. In May 2016, inspired by the 100th birthday of the City of Carmel, Lucas selected one hundred pieces of Cypress and published a "Poetic Cypress of Carmel 100".
