Artist Louise Murphy

An example of fine art by Louise Murphy

Photo of Louise Murphy

Louise has been drawing , painting and potting since childhood when her artist aunt, Louise Hawkins , encouraged her to take full enjoyment of her God given talent. She attended The University of North Texas , majoring in Fine Arts with a speciality in ceramics. After marrying and moving to Ontario, Canada she continued to work in ceramics as well as taking up drawing. During her years raising a family in Midland , TX she took watercolor classes, continued to draw and taught art privately to children of all ages.
Moving to the Texas Hill Country in the late 90’s spurred her on to pursue a life long dream of painting regularly and getting back to oil painting. In this pursuit she was introduced to Plein Air painting and fell in love as it combines everything enjoyable about being outdoors , enjoying the beauty of nature and taking time to settle in and observe a scene long enough to gain insight into the complexity of creation, before the light changes! She has studied under John Budicin, CSTalley, Ian Roberts, Ron Rencher, Kevin MacPherson, and Zhuaming Wu.
Louise also enjoys still life , figure study and portraiture especially children’s portraits. She returned to teaching privately so she could teach a second generation, her grandchildren and other young students of Fredericksburg. She now takes a limited number of private students. A painting trip to Provence, France in 2014 brought a wealth of new experiences and materials for future paintings. Travels to Italy and England in following years have added to her references . Louise is a member of Oil Painters of America, The Outdoor Painters Society, Plein Air Painters of New Mexico, and is locally active  in Die Künstler von Fredericksburg ( The Artist of Fredericksburg) . She maintains studio space in downtown Fredricksburg, TX above Dooleys 5&10.
