Biography

Lori Woodward has been painting and teaching professionally since 1995. She holds a BFA in Art Education from the University of Arizona. As an artist, Lori has been a member of the Internationally known group, The Putney Painters since 2004, led by master artist, Richard Schmid. She participated in Putney Painters shows and teaching events both in Vermont and also at Legacy Gallery in Scottsdale and at Scottsdale Artist School. While Lori worked with galleries for about a decade, because she was busy writing for several art publications and could not provide galleries with the inventory needed, she decided to sell only at her workshops and from this website. As an instructor, Lori has taught watercolor workshops, demonstrated for watercolor societies and authored a series of step-by-step articles for Watercolor Magazine from 2007 to 2013. Lori has been an instructor at Scottsdale Artist School and The Arizona Sonora Desert Museum. Additionally, Lori co-authored Walter Foster Publication: Watercolor, Step by Step, which is still in print.

As a writer, Lori authored articles for American Artist Publications from 1996 to 2013. The most enjoyable series is where she wrote for Workshop Magazine where she was both the author and photographer for those articles. She shares, “While I didn’t paint while hired as a writer, I got to learn by watching from the best artists in beautiful settings. I also made friendships along the way.”

Today, Lori writes for her own blog, sometimes posting painting tutorials. She teaches watercolor classes locally on occasion when she has time. That said, today Lori paints in acrylic and oil on canvas.

Lori also enjoys tennis, line dancing and walking with her husband (and eating out). They recently moved to Arizona when husband retired in 2020.
