The Artist Says:

The beauty of the human figure as expressed in modern dance inspires my work.  My tools are artist brush markers, graphite and rapidograph pen. I use a pointilist technique to create the light, shadow and depth of color of an impressionist painting.

Biography

Linda began her art career as a textile designer, working for many years designing soft sculpture figures. She fell in love with modern dance and began working with colored translucent ink pens on paper which allowed her to capture the intensity and exuberance of the dancing figure and immediately express the figure's linear beauty. Her figures are anonymous, having few or no facial features, because her interest is concentrating on the essence of the figure and the beauty of movement, incorporating her background in surface design into the dancers' costumes and the grid-like backgrounds of the paintings. Over the years, her work has increased in complexity, incorporating more complex grid patterns and fanciful landscape settings. Painterly effect is achieved through stippling overlays of color, working from lighter to darker, usually with three or more levels of color to create greater depth and intensity.

Linda has a dual B.A. degree in Human Development and Fine Art from the University of Chicago and an M.A. in Textile Design from California State University, Los Angeles. She has participated in classes and workshops in sculpture, Japanese Brush Painting, Batik and Tie Dye as well as having worked in cooperation with other artists on group projects. Her work has been featured in solo shows in Ocean City and Ocean Pines, MD. In addition, she has participated in many juried exhibitions, earning awards from: Howard County Conservancy MD-TAOS exhibitions, annual juried exhibitions of the Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society of Washington, DC (MPSGS), Maryland Federation of Art in Annapolis, MD and in College Park, MD and the Sacramento, California Fine Arts Center. One of her paintings was featured in the 2012 art book, Strokes of Genius 4: Exploring Line. She is now represented by the HorseSpirit Arts Gallery in Savage, Maryland as a gallery artist.
