As an expressionist abstract painter several factors take place before I start painting.  I select my pallet based on the series or the subject matter. I have an idea of what I hope to achieve but the piece takes shape quickly, and leads the way.

I start with a base coat of patterns and shapes creating what I consider the most important step.
This is when the memories of my visit start coming to life - the city I visited, the buildings that intrigued me thru the layers of paint, the window I longed to peer through.  I continue adding larger shape, defining the composition and setting the movement of the piece.

Many layers reveal fragments. I add and remove paint, creating a history meant to be explored, and felt thru the use of scale and texture.  The layers like life itself, need history to tell the story.

Added texture and color enhance the design, creating a strong composition as well as tension within the elements. I often spend a great deal of time cleaning up brush or knife strokes, and applying countless layers of glazes to enhance the dominate colors and composition.
When others sense the experience and emotion I convey, this is the true measure of success.

M. Linda Fischer

The artwork of contemporary abstract painter Linda Fischer sings through the use of color and always has been her means to tell a very compelling story.

Fischer invites the viewer to come closer and see what she creates within the many layers, leading to a final statement going in and out of focus thru the use of paint. She asks the viewer to enjoy the feelings each piece brings and perhaps realize they have been there as well.

An early childhood fascination with windows and doors inspires Fischer to make up stories of people who lived behind them, what they did there and what the rooms might have looked like. She creates pieces to revisit the memories and draw the viewer in both physically and mentally to fully experience the details.

Many years of traveling have lead to experiences that have painted a colorful journey of over 30 years.
