I have been an artist my entire life, sketching and drawing everything around me.  I studied art at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX and have continued to learn new techniques through workshops in watercolor, graphite, oil and acrylic during my adult years.  The detail that can be achieved in all the different mediums is astounding. 
My art career really took off in 2008.  I was diagnosed with Stage-3 breast cancer and because I needed to take it easy from my golfing activities during all the surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation treatments, I signed up for a pencil drawing class at Tyler Junior College.  My instructor, Maureen Killaby, introduced me to the world of extreme detailed drawing and I was totally hooked!    I’m now an 8-year cancer survivor and am continuing to pursue my dream of being a better artist.  This is the pencil drawing I donated in appreciation to the Tyler Oncology Center and my oncologist (on the left), Dr. Sasha Vulkeja (Dr. V).  That's me on the right (after my hair grew back!)

Being an outdoor enthusiast has introduced the Plein Air experience in art for me.  It combines everything that I love about art … being outside enjoying nature plus talking and interacting with the people who stop to admire and inquire about the process.  No one ever walks away without a conversation with me … perhaps I can persuade someone who watches to step outside their comfort zone and become an artist themselves! The picture on the left is in Estes Park, CO at Lily's Lake and the one on the right is at an outdoor festival where I shared the painting experience with some new, small artists!
