Artist Lee Short

An example of fine art by Lee Short

Photo of Lee Short

Lee comes from a family of artists. His grandfather, Gustav Accanciamessa, an immigrant from Abruzzo Italy,  was a classically trained professional artist who lived and worked in Pennsylvania and was commissioned by Catholic churches to paint murals, sculptures and other works of fine art. His unfinished painting of Christ in the Garden is in a place of honor above Lee’s fireplace in his home. His cousins share in the gift.

Lee studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art and Schuler’s School of Fine Art in Baltimore. Lee began his professional career as an artist in 1975, and went into Christian ministry in 1984, working with the poor and establishing community centers to feed and educate children; traveling and ministering through 25 countries channeling his gift through the photos he took and buildings he helped build. He has once again picked up his brush and palette knife and considers his work a celebration of creation.  Lee paints with passion in an impasto-representational style that varies between realism and impressionism. His first love is landscapes and outdoor painting, which he captures from the Texas Hill country to the tropical seascapes and vistas from his travels in his ministry work.
