Biography
I am a pastel artist from Wrentham, Massachusetts. Through my paintings I celebrate the joy, beauty and humor of the world, with subjects ranging from people and animals to landscapes and small scale nature vignettes. Through a rich and complex use of color, my paintings create and share emotions, from the serenity of a quiet walk on a woodland trail, to the humor of a dog’s smile or a donkey’s quizzical look.
I have been drawing and painting all my life. In fact one of my earliest memories is of one of the “grownups” in my life asking me; “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Without hesitating I said; “An artist!” My path to my current art passion wasn’t quite linear, however.
After high school I received a degree in Radiography and have had a long successful career in Ultrasound Imaging (which in and of itself is an art form!). In my early twenties when I wasn’t at my hospital job, I had a design and calligraphy business called “Calligrams.” In addition to the usual envelope addressing and invitation making of a calligrapher, I designed business logos and drew pictures for newspaper ads. I made a lot of art for a Vintage clothing store and I even designed and painted their outdoor sign! (With help from my Dad.) Later on in the 1990s my creative interests turned to playing the accordion but I was still always doing pen and ink drawings, along with colored pencil and pen creations. A series of those were used for numerous postage stamp issues from Mongolia which was a really cool experience for a still budding artist.
