Biography

"I am a minimalist; inspired by the visual world with a focus on the simple silhouette of the object.”
~Laura Welshans

The concepts of my paintings are based on the effects of erosion, the shape of shadows and the simple beauty of flowers.  The goal is to show how the organic fragile nature of Earth and the human-made world coexist through color, shape and light.  I use a limited palette to create well-defined shapes within large negative spaces and apply oil paint in multiple layers for thick textural elements.
