Biography

Laura Peden is an emerging landscape artist from Perth, Western Australia. Laura’s work invites the viewer to take a closer look at the remnant pockets of bush land and natural vegetation close to urban areas. Her paintings tell stories about the impact of urbanisation, conservation and the resilience of nature.
Laura enjoys plein air painting, sketching and photography and uses these studies as the basis for creating acrylic and mixed media works.

Laura trained as a classical flautist (Melbourne University and the Victorian College of the Arts) and continues to work as a peripatetic flute and recorder teacher. Now that her children are adults, she is finally allowing herself to focus on painting, a dream she has had since she was 14, when she participated in an extra curricular painting class at school for one term. Some things are worth waiting for!

Laura was awarded the Ellis House Member Award in the 2019 City of Bayswater Community Art Awards.

She is also the author of Giving Their Best: A History of East Maylands Primary School (2003) and Treasured Island: 175 Years of Growing Up in Guildford (2008).
