Laura is a Colorado native, artist, wife and mother.   After many years of exploration, Laura’s preferred artistic medium is batik on rice paper with water media.  One of the world’s oldest art forms, the intriguing process of batik, dates back over 2, 000 years ago in Asia, India, and the Far East and is traditionally done on paper.  Today, as a contemporary fine artist, Laura layers pigment and hot wax over handmade rice paper.  Then she coats the painting with a final coat of wax, crumpled into a ball, and smoothed out.  A final coat of paint is applied and the pigment seeps into the cracks of broken wax, leaving a crazed look to the painting similar to a spider web.
Finally, she removes the wax with a hot iron, melting away the layers of the opaque wax to reveal a vibrant painting beneath.  The batik process has many phases and all are integral to the creation of her “one of a kind” paintings.
Laura’s art is focused on creation, evolution, and the many phases and cyclical nature of life. She paints abstracted images from nature in an impressionistic style leaving the viewer to complete the image and connect on a more personal level with her art.
Laura’s work has been in many juried shows and is included in many private collections.  Most recently, four larger works featuring Wyoming Nature have been commissioned by the State of Wyoming and is on permanent display in Torrington, Wyoming at the Eastern College of Wyoming building.
