Artist Laura Johnson

An example of fine art by Laura Johnson

Photo of Laura Johnson

Glass known for her kiln-formed vibrant glass poppy bowls and her touchable fall and winter aspen scenes, artist Laura Johnson is as masterful as any painter, but canvases her scenes in vibrant colors of glass.
Layering colored crushed glass on a foundation of sheet glass, Laura creates what she sees out her 360° mountain views from her home in the gem state of rural Idaho. Through her Forestry and Master Gardening experience she has come to love and respect nature and only has to take a walk anywhere in the world, but especially down her lane, to feel inspired. “My eyes gravitate up to the mountains wherever I go. They call me, and I answer that call through my art,” Laura states.  Her signature look includes flowers, trees and landscapes of mountains, streams and lakes, taking one to three kiln firings with 20 – 100 hours of process going into each piece.
Converting a greenhouse into her glass-art studio, Laura creates works as a full time artist that are carried all over the world by travelers picking them up in airports and vacation destinations like Jackson Hole. Her outdoor scenes vary from coaster-size to entire glass windows.
Contributing recently to the famous Grove sculpture reconstructed in downtown Boise, Idaho, Laura loves being a part of monumental community pieces and would love to see more artists’ work featured throughout the world.
