Biography

Laura Fischer Saxon uses paint in a time honored traditional manner that reflects the influences of Caravaggio, Vermeer, Monet and Sargent in her work, but with a Contemporary sensibility.  This New Orleans Artist uses paint to express her Tropical "Sense of Place," even if that place happens to be Paris.  Her family roots are here in Louisiana.
Laura began painting with finger paints that her mother made when she was a small child.  She was inspired by the beauty around her and paintings that were in her family's home and Museums that she has visited around the world.

Saxon studied art with professional artists while in elementary school and continues to learn each year.  She studied Art at Louisiana Tech University and earned her BFA in Painting and Drawing at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette, where she was asked to teach upon graduation. She has also studied at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts and has won awards there and in numerous other shows including 1st Place at the recent New Orleans Art Association City Park Show 2021.

This year she participated in shows at the Randy Higbee Gallery and Laguna Plein Air Painters Association in California.
She was also selected to be in the Shadows on The Teche Plein Air Competition in New Iberia Louisiana.
Laura continues to be inspired daily by the beautiful gardens, wild landscapes and interesting people that she sees and loves to share her vision of them with the world.

Saxon has friends and collectors across the US and around the world who appreciate her expression of what she sees!  Not all are beautiful!
She painted an iguana when she was in the Caribbean because it was a fascinating creature!

"Life continues to produce things that are of visual interest that I would like to explore through Paint!'
