Photo of LaDonna Daniel

LaDonna Daniel was born in 1960 to a young couple from Oklahoma. Today she lives and works in Amarillo TX. LaDonna is a contemporary impressionist working predominately in oil medium. Her work is currently on display at Barnes Jewelry in Amarillo TX, where a group of local artists participate in a monthly First Friday Art Walk. She is also represented on gallery walls at Freeze Chiropractic Neurology in Amarillo.
LaDonna has been a student of art for what she considers her whole life. Drawing and sketching often since childhood and visiting art exhibitions every chance possible. She constantly devoured art history. Painting didn’t become a means of artistic expression until later in her life. She began taking professional workshops in her mid 30’s, and continues to the present. Of great influence to her development are artists’ Mike Mahon, Ben Konis and Maggie Price, among other great teachers. LaDonna began her painting career working mostly from photographs taken of landscapes and figurative subjects.
She had some experience painting from life, but it wasn’t until she realized just how important it was to learn this discipline, that she began to make it a priority. It was then she began to study still life painting with Kelli Folsom. Much of Kelli’s influence can be seen in LaDonna’s still life work today.
Most recently LaDonna has joined the popular Plein Air movement and has made a commitment to meet with the Palo Duro Plein Air Painters (PDPAP) to paint once monthly in our beautiful State Park. She is loving the influence she is gaining from painting side by side with artist and teacher Jack Sorenson and other great artists. She is also an active member of the Outdoor Painters Society. OPS hosts 8 to 10 paint outs per year in different locations across Texas, New Mexico and Colorado. [...]
