A native of central Pennsylvania, Kim is a graduate with honors from York Academy of Art (now Pennsylvania College of Art and Design) and attended Wesley College, Dover, Delaware. Her major at Wesley was secondary education and at York Academy, graphic design and illustration.
From 1976 to 1992 Kim lived and worked in Wilmington, Delaware as a graphic designer and illustrator in the field of advertising. In 1992 she returned to Pennsylvania and secured a position with the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission in Harrisburg, designing books and book covers, brochures, posters and ephemera related to the history of the Commonwealth. In 2003 she became the art director and designer of the 52-page quarterly magazine Pennsylvania Heritage until retiring in 2015.
Kim has maintained a fine art studio since 1996 and her illustrations have appeared in many venues. She has exhibited, won awards and sold paintings throughout the East Coast and executed many commissioned portraits. A current member and past instructor at the Art Association of Harrisburg since 2002—2016, her classes in Portraiture and Introduction to Pastel were held weekly through four semesters. At present she regularly offers classes in Basic Drawing at the Carlisle Arts Learning Center.
Continuing to learn and grow Kim annually studies with established contemporary artists. Her recent favorite workshops have been at the Hudson River Valley in Greenville, New York, where she has studied with Richard McKinley, Susan Ogilvie and Margaret Dyer. She’s a Signature Member and past President of the Maryland Pastel Society, and an Artist Member of the Pastel Society of American Women Artists. She belongs to the Susquehanna Valley Plein Air Painters and enjoys painting in the open air with fellow artists. Her work is represented at Village Artisans, Boiling Springs, PA.
