New York City native Kika Barbariantz knew from childhood that horses would be a big part of her life. Summers were spent in upstate New York working with and around horses. Time away from the horses was spent drawing them, along with other animals. It was during her childhood that Kika's artistic talent became evident. While attending college, Kika worked for Hall of Fame thoroughbred trainer Woody Stephens. It was at Belmont Park that she met the famous equine artist, Richard Stone Reeves, who took the time to view her portfolio. He was very impressed with her pencil techniques and encouraged Kika to pursue her art career.Kika melded her two passions and took them to another level. She attended the famed Art Students League in N.Y.C. and continued to work with horses, all the while accepting requests from people to draw their animals. Having a keen ability to capture her subject's essence and spirit, her commissions continued to increase as clients showed her work to others. Now residing in upstate, N.Y., she has also started to work with children, teaching them the techniques of drawing, and dedicating herself full time to her artwork and photography. For a commissioned portrait of your animal, she may be reached at [email protected]
