Artist Kay Moffitt

An example of fine art by Kay Moffitt

Kay is an award winning contemporary impressionist who loves to paint in oil en plein air as well as in her studio in Charleston.  She is inspired by the people she meets and the spaces where they live and work.  Her travels both home and abroad have given her an abundance of subject matter to capture on canvas.
When describing Kay’s work it has often been said there is an air of mystery found in her paintings…unanswered questions, stories about life choices and secret paths that lead to uncertain ends.  Depicting these subjects in paint is a great equalizer where even a street peddler becomes immortalized on canvas.  Her color choices are often more tonal, but even the most gray and moody will have at least a splash of color. “I find painting the gritty captures my interest more than the pretty aspects of life. “
Over the years it has been her privilege to study with accomplished artists such as Richard Schmid, Sherrie McGraw, David Leffel, Rose Frantzen Kim English and others.  In her 10 years living in the Chicago area she was an active participant in programs at the Palette and Chisel, Evanston Art Center and the North Shore Art League.  Kay has participated in several group shows and exhibitions in Pennsylvania, Illinois and South Carolina.  She is a member of American Impressionist Society, Oil Painters of America, Portrait Society of America, and the Charleston Artists Guild.
