Artist Kaye York

An example of fine art by Kaye York

Photo of Kaye York

Kaye’s love for horses started her capturing them in pencil at a young age, and when she began painting in the early 80’s, it was clear that her passion for horses and cowboys would be the focus of her work.
She works mostly in oil & pencil.   Her subject may stray from cowboys to a landscape, an old barn, or wildlife, but it still reflects her love of the West.
The show circuit throughout Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Montana was a big part of Kaye’s life for many years and exposed her to many wonderful artists that became her mentors and friends.
Kaye has received countless awards over the years, including many “Best of Shows” and “People’s Choices” but her most coveted are two ”Best of Shows”  from the National Western Art Show in Ellensburg, Washington, as this award is voted on by fellow artists.  Twice she has received “Best of Show” honors in the on-line Western Art Rodeo Association competition. Once in 2018 and once in 2019.
Her paintings and prints adorn the walls of many private homes not only in the US, but France, Germany, England, Holland, and Japan.   She also has a piece in the Albertson’s Corporate Headquarters permanent collection.   York’s work has been featured on two covers of two New Mexico Stockman magazines.
Kaye York - Artist Statement
The rapidly shrinking West and vanishing cowboy way of life has pushed me to capture the essence of this time in history before it is gone.  I strive to capture the dress and regalia of each cowboy in his native setting.  No matter which medium or subject I choose, I strive for accuracy, good composition and to tell a story.
