Artist Katie Flores

An example of fine art by Katie Flores

Photo of Katie Flores

Katie is a prolific and passionate painter with a natural eye for color and spatial relationships.  Katie was born in 1994 and was diagnosed with autism as a young girl.  For many years she was very frustrated because she experienced the intensity and vibrancy of life and had no way of expressing it. As soon as Katie picked up the paint brush and felt the resistance of paint under her hand something clicked.
In 2017 she started working with San Diego artist Elizabeth Wepsic who helped uncover Katie's talent and develop her skills. Her painting has now become a powerful mode of expression.  Katie is an advocate for inclusion in the arts.
In 2020 Katie paired up with outsider artist Amanda Saint Claire and the two were an instant match.  Katie now has her own art studio adjacent to her mentor,  Saint Claire and together they exemplify "radical inclusion," working side by side on their shared passions.  Under Saint Claire's guidance Katie has been exploring new styles of handling paint and mark making.  Both artists have an instinctual color sense and enjoy the freedom that comes with exploration.  Because neither artist has formal training (Saint Claire is formally trained as an expressive arts educator and coach), they both flow in and out of a state of learning by doing working collaboratively.  It is a beautiful practice based on trust, respect, and surrender.
Katie is also a resident artist at Revision under the tutelage of Joy Boe.  www.revision.com
Katie has exhibited in group shows and hopes to continue to exhibit as her body of work grows and her paintings, prints, and merchandise are available to purchase on her website.
