Kati is an oil painter who works in the Monterey Bay Area and draws inspiration from the wild landscapes and quaint architecture of this beautiful region. Point Lobos, Pinnacles National Monument, the Monterey Harbor and Elkhorn Slough are favorite spots. She has a weakness for dilapidated barns and the blue of the Pacific against the rocks in Big Sur. Kati began painting formally only ten years ago but grew up surrounded by art. Her father was a well-known artist in Munich, Germany and the apartment building they lived in housed not only their apartment, but his studio, and the studios of several other local artists. Between seeing his work progress in the studio and visiting local galleries and shows, art was integral to Kati’s life in Munich. The next chapters of life left little time for art or leisure. She and her husband of 45 years were busy living and working in cities throughout Europe, the USA and the Middle East and raising three children. It wasn’t until those children were through college that Kati had time to pick up a paintbrush in earnest. Kati’s early training was in watercolor while living in a small town in Central Florida, but after several years, she switched to oil on canvas as her primary medium. Kati attends several workshops each year for further training, but remains primarily self-taught. She divides her time between portraits, still life and plein air and is a Signature Member of the Monterey Bay Area Plein Air Association. Painting outdoors with changing light and weather conditions provides a contrast to the control of the studio.
