Artist Kathy Stuart

An example of fine art by Kathy Stuart

Photo of Kathy Stuart

I was born and raised in rural Prince Edward Island (PEI), a province of Canada on the east coast of Canada renowned for its beautiful landscapes and seacoast. Much of my childhood was spent being active outdoors in all four seasons, exploring our Acadian forest, appreciating wildflowers and enjoying our red and white sandy beaches. I gained an intimate knowledge of the natural world and its beauty all year round.  Now that I have retired from other careers which had very little to do with fine art, I try to express this sense of place through plein air painting.
Primarily interested in landscape, I started painting in watercolour in 2014 when I first took part in the inaugural Points East Plein Air Festival.  This wonderful annual event takes place at various towns, villages and ports throughout eastern Prince Edward Island and now attracts painters from all over North America. I have participated in a number of watercolour workshops from Poppy Balser by the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia and recently attended my second symposium of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC). It was held at the Gaelic College of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in June, 2019.
