An example of fine art by Kathy Fediw

Photo of Kathy Fediw

Kathy Fediw's paintings are filled with movement and impasto, expressing what words cannot say. Kathy’s work is strongly influenced by the post-impressionists and Modernists, especially Van Gogh, Matisse, Chagall and Rousseau.  She experiments and plays with color, giving her paintings an unforgettable glow.  She enjoys painting en plein air and can be found doing demos at various local outdoor events and artists' gatherings.
Kathy won Best of Show in her first judged art show in 2013, and has since won numerous awards for her artwork.  She studied watercolor painting under Mary Lois Virrella while living in her home town of Pittsburgh, PA.  She moved to Texas in 1999 and started taking more art classes and workshops in 2012. She experiments with a more modern, stylized approach in her recent paintings and drawings, and uses various materials to express her thoughts and emotions.
She began working in oils from 2013-2019 under the mentorship and tutelage of Marty Hatcher, former student of Dick Turner in Houston.  She has also taken workshops with Master Pastellist Casey Klahn, Rita Kirkman, Scott Mattlin and other artists.
Kathy was a well-known professional horticulturist and writer with numerous professional accreditations, and her intimate knowledge of plants and trees are evident in her artwork.  She retired in 2019 and now paints full time. Kathy exhibits and sells her paintings through the Conroe Art League Gallery, Woodlands Art League Gallery, her own art studio and online.  Kathy can often be found sketching and painting en plein air in Conroe and The Woodlands , where she and her husband Ted make their home.
