This is a bit long, but I have been around a pretty long time and have been blessed with an interesting life.
I was inspired to figure out how to paint because of living with the beautiful land and seascapes of Southwestern Alaska in the late 1970s.  But then we moved to Oregon and I was just too busy raising a family, serving in the U S Army Reserves, building a fulfilling career as the director of a large ballet school, and enjoying the hobby of mountain climbing, to find time to paint.
Upon retirement in 1994 from the military and my careers as a dancer and a climbing instructor, my husband and I literally “sailed off into the sunset” on our 36 foot ketch.  We first sailed north to Alaska, then south to Mexico and across the Pacific, visiting many beautiful tropical islands, and finishing our trip six years later in New Zealand.  Finally I had time for art, but life on a small boat was just too compact to accommodate painting.  However, during those years I fell in love with the warm, bright beauty of the South Pacific and now I really enjoy painting tropical scenes.
After returning to the US, we lived a few years in an RV touring the states.  Eventually we settled on the Gulf Coast of Alabama where, besides stating another ballet school, I finally began painting in earnest!  This really marked the beginning of my career as an artist.  I found the local tropical colors, the sea birds, the sunny beaches, and the moody backwater bays truly inspiring.  As my skills grew I was accepted in most coastal galleries and major juried art festivals.  Because I am, above all, a teacher, I enjoyed teaching painting classes to both adults and children as well as building a business [...]
