An example of fine art by Kathleen Mogayzel

Photo of Kathleen Mogayzel

Kathleen Mullins Mogayzel received a B.A. in art from Regis College in Weston, MA, and studied graphic arts, painting and printmaking at several institutions. She has studied with established New England artists in various mediums.  Lettering Arts is also a passion, and for over thirty five years she has studied with nationally and internationally renowned calligraphers.
Printmaking has integrated her graphic design, photography and painting skills. It offers exciting methods to express Kathleen’s love of nature’s colors, textures and changing moods of light. She is thrilled by mixing colors to print layers of ink for intense color values and saturation. Middle grounds and foregrounds are often created by the reduction method of wiping ink off the plate to capture atmospheric moments and vegetation. Some printing plates are made with branches and found treasures that appear along her path. Combining these collograph plates with monoprint backgrounds adds textures in relief and color depth to the prints. In addition to the brain challenge of planning the images in reverse, there is the thrill of the “aha! moment” that often happens by pulling a print off the press and finding unexpected results. Some prints have passages added in calligraphy as well as collaged ephemera, morphing into the realm of mixed media.
Kathleen’s painterly monoprints are also influenced by her photographs. South Shore vistas including the Herring River and tidal marshes where she lives, are the primary influence in all her work.  Studying with noted area painters add to her interpretations through creamy oils and acrylics or juicy watercolors.
Kathleen is a juried artist in the Russell Gallery at the Plymouth Guild and was previously in the Front Street Art Gallery in Scituate. Her work can be seen frequently in shows at North River Arts Society, Scituate Arts Association, South Shore Art Center, Gallery [...]
