An example of fine art by Kathleen Ikerd

Kathleen Ikerd goes by her nickname, Kathy.   Kathy is a native of Northern California.   Her interest in art began at an early age when a schoolmate asked to trade drawings.   "I was surprised, and took that as a compliment."  In middle school she was given the top grade for her figurative drawings.   Feeling encouraged, she took interest in art classes.  Kathy studied art at Ventura College and continues to learn from many workshops.
Kathy's work is inspired by Japan's bright colors where she lived for two years when her husband served in the military.   Though her art isn't as vivid, she loves to work with color.  Kathleen describes her work as contemporary impression and is especially moved by the works of Russian impressionists.
Working in oils, she enjoys painting a variety of subjects; figurative, landscapes, architecture, florals, animals and seascapes.  Landscapes are painted plein aire and in the studio.  Occasionally she uses a palette knife to create work that is design driven and abstract by nature.   She has studied life drawing for many years and feels it is an important basic to know and is helpful to maintain drawing skills.   When traveling, if not doing plein aire, she keeps busy by doing small ink and watercolor sketches, 1x2.5 inches.   She also enjoys doing watercolor pocket sketches that are a bit larger in size.
Continual growth and in color exploration is her constant goal.
