Photo of Katherine Uitz

British-born Katherine Uitz grew up in a small town in Texas. Her parents encouraged the budding young artist, providing her with various art mediums with which to experiment. Summer family trips to national parks nurtured Katherine's love for the great outdoors and a fascination with the way of life in the old west. Katherine's first art shows and commissioned paintings and drawings were during her high school years. After graduation from university, she moved to Austria where she lived for seven years and became an accomplished watercolorist. After winning the 1996 Arts for the Parks grand prize for her watercolor painting of Yellowstone's Minera Terrace, Katherine moved back to Texas. There she added oil painting and drawing back into her repertoire. In 2000, she began teaching at the Art Center of Williamson County, and opened her own studio in Leander for classes in 2007. When Katherine is not teaching, painting or drawing, she is busy traveling, gardening, or spending time with her family.Artist's Statement:

It's a privilege to teach others - you never know what affect you'll have on other people, so I try to empower my students. I teach them the nuts and bolts of good art. This gives them an addition layer of understanding to complement their natural ability. I like to think I'm bringing beauty into the world, and if someone feels joy looking at my work, well, that's very gratifying [...]
