An example of fine art by Katharine Gotham

Photo of Katharine Gotham

Katharine Gotham grew up in New Jersey and spent much of her childhood boating on the bays and swimming in the ocean at the Jersey shore. After graduating from Rutgers University, she and her husband took a circuitous path around the country and decided the twin cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul would be home and where Katharine would begin her career as a ceramic artist.
For over 20 years, Katharine worked as a ceramic artist creating her playful, one-of-a kind pots. Her work has been recognized in both regional and national exhibitions.  Katharine's work has also been in many publications, including two books on ceramics and The New York Times. In 2013, Katharine Gotham embarked upon a life-long dream of intensively studying painting and drawing.  Since her identity was so closely tied to being a ceramicist, it was a humbling transition to make--to be a newby student instead of the teacher.  After working with some wonderful mentors and putting in many long hours, Katharine discovered that she loved the challenges and experiences of being a painter and decided to proceed full steam ahead.
In 2017, Katharine debuted her first collection of paintings at Loring Park Art Festival in Minneapolis and was honored to be selected as a Featured Artist. Her paintings have also been selected for inclusion in the Edina Members Juried Show, two exhibits at Studio Pintura in Minneapolis, Art Attack 2018, Art-A-Whirl 2019, 311 Gallery in Raleigh, NC, and in the 2018 and 2019 Loring Park Art Festival.
The photo below is of Katharine at age 16 painting storefront windows in preparation for the Halloween Parade in Toms River, NJ.  Halloween is still her favorite holiday!
